Home again, home again...

The trailer is still in Junction, TX and my friend, Kenda will have it taken back to her place for me where it can safely stay until I decide what to do with it. I think I have three choices: 1.) Sell it in Junction and get another one here. B. Drive back to TX and pull it home. And iii: Have it shipped. The trip from Junction was almost non-stop; we drove about 1,700 miles straight through. We did stop for a really nice dinner at The Woodshed in Ft. Worth with Marina’s friends Shannon & Freddie and their little boy, Theo. After that it was “straight on ‘til morning.” Nobody wanted to drive 66 and the Beltway as the last leg of a beautiful trip so we turned east from 81 near Staunton, VA and took the back roads to get home. We pulled into my driveway at 6:30 pm, Saturday, September 29. We were on the road for 26 days, drove 8,754.8 miles, visited 20 states, 12 (I think) National Parks, Monuments, and Recreation Areas, and scenic routes, rest stops, boondocking sites, Wal...

The trailer is staying in Junction, TX while we speed home in the newly recovered truck. A leaf spring on the trailer snapped late last night (about three hours from leaving Marathon) causing both tires to be shredded and possibly bending one or both axles.

On the Road Again

Why does this always happen??? Your car is in the shop and they tell you when they think it will be ready and that they will call you. I feel as though I’ve already been a bit of a pest, what with it taking FOUR DAYS to get the part so I’m hesitant to call and annoy them. At 4:30 this afternoon I finally called and got, “Oh, yeah, it’s ready. We close at 5:00 but we’ll wait for you.”  Gee, thanks!  Anyway, we’re on the way to Junction, TX for a quick, very late dinner with my friend Kenda and then back on the road pretty much straight through to home.

Marathon Day Two - Big Bend National Park and Terlingua

The part for the truck MIGHT be in Alpine by Thursday and it’s possible we could leave Thursday late afternoon. Today was spent driving through Big Bend National Park and visiting Terlingua.

Waiting to hear how long we’re going to be in Marathon. The truck is in a shop in Alpine - a better chance of getting parts there than here in Marathon. We’re staying at the Marathon Motel and RV Park, an interesting place:   http://www.marathonmotel.com/    We’ve got a rental car but at $.10 a mile with the distances in these parts we need to plan our outings carefully.   Desert yoga
